I`m gobbsmacked!!!!,after reading that.
I feel really sorry for you Howard,I hope no one has that experiance.
It sounded as though the guild was run by the gestapo,or mafia or some rotten to the core gang.

I`ve been playing online games for many years, and I`m most likely the oldest one here"at a guess" .I`m 57,play COD,and belong to a clan ,BF2,,and many others,"by the way the wifes a pc widow",I`m just a big kid at heart, but in all the games I have played,I have never seen this happen.
Just goes to show that some people will stop at nothing to get what they want........"In a word GREED".

I have been playing this game for about 6 months, and have just decided to join a guild,in the last 2 weeks. They seem a really nice bunch of people, and it is not very large.
I have had loads of help, and advice from the officers,as well as the leader himself, who it seems nothing is too much trouble.
We all help one another out,and if I pick up something that is good but I dont need, then I always keep it ,and pass it on to someone who has a use for it.

Its so sad to see this happen in a game I just love playing, and this is what will turn people against joining guilds, them sort should be banned from playing the game, like we ban cheaters in our COD clan.
Well Howard all the best to you in your new guild, hope you have more fun there,as thats why we play games.

I don't think i've ever heard about anything so stupid. I can empathise with your situation. Good thing is i'm selfish when it comes to my things. I would never have donated to a guild that asks for such outragous things. I hate it when people take advantage of other peoples kindness.

Unfortunatly, there ARE guilds out there that do that. I lead an OLD guild (Prophecies closed beta guild) and I often complaine that I have almost no gold or even good drops to make some gold. BUT, my members know that I will 100% of the time flat out refuse ANY donations/loans/gifts of ANY kind. I give what I have to them, when I can, but refuse any repayments. Guess that constitutes a semi-good and nice leader. :P

wow.

im an officer in our guild... pve/pvp/gvg..

we (i) dont sell to guildies, or more frankly, the guildies that have been in there for a while.. i've given perfect items, and gotten stuff in return. its a give/give position... nobody *forces* anyone, or even hints at taking the good stuff that other people get.

point being. once you saw that they werent helping, you should've left right then and there..

Tell me ur guild name and I will pawn them
I was a leader of my clan, I know there are things that is really hard to set up within the guild. One time, one of the new guildy asked if anyone have materials for free O,O....I yelled at him that he should not be asking for free stuffs. He said sorry to me. But then after that, I think over "wat's the point of guild then, is it that u help others ppl? If so, wat will u get back from those helps?". It starts to frustrated me. I tried to make the guild to be the same level. Noone should help others w/o being helped. In the other word, you help someone in the guild, there will be a record for it and he will gain point. When he/she gain the decent amount of point, he/she will have an access to demand something worth the amount of point they gain. It seems to work well till I am tired of keeping track on point and stuffs so I decide to break the whole guild ...Other guild may want to try that. It's pretty efficient

Man...this suxx...If a leader is a Jerk then the whole guild is..or at least officers....If I were you I would have exploded with anger much earlier for those unjust things and manipulations...

Just don't worry be happy and be careful with next guild....The guild I'm in is very small for there are only honorable people...there is nothing like good and helpful and respectful people in your guild

my guild is small (4 ppl), and we help ppl that arent in our guild these days because we have most of the weapons and armor and other things weve wanted. we dont make a big deal about giving, loaning, or selling things between each other. we all just use common sense and if something is worth selling we offer it to guildies first at a discount. we buy stuff for each other if we see it being sold and know another needs it. we have a leaader but we are all equal, and we all take care of one another. i salvage if one of us needs a mod, or a material, other than that i give stuff to whoever is around when i clean out inventory. i started doing trivia contests in L.A. a year ago (i see ppl doing them now all over the place, especially monestary), to give away max items that wernt gonna get me more than a few plat if i spammed all day trying to sell. i give away gold in towns when im in a good mood (youll see me saying "first to open trade window gets 1k"). i like to spread wealth, i like to help nubs, not greedy fags who have everything they need anyway.

i think the problem lies in large guilds where the leader is power trippin because he built a large guild. kinda sad really, but then again, you stuck around, which is sad too. i guess some ppl have to learn the hard way. common sense is that if youre being taken advantage of, leave fast, and try to get something for your trouble before you leave.

as long as stupidity and greed walk hand in hand ya gonna have guilds who act like this. Just need to take things with a pinch of salt and learn to not put trust into things blindly.

I don't care much about money, a big thing with me is "will i get respect in this guild?"
The one i'm currently in, I'm trying to save 10k so I can buy one of the NPCs for the guild hall (Priest, i believe is what im saving for) but this is more so for charity than "MUST... GET... OFFICER...SPOT.." Which i will get if I help the guild hall a bit.

I was in two other guilds before this current one. One gave me a price check on a 10k item and another gave me a run to droks on my warrior. That was all fine and good but I felt the respect level was a bit lacking.

The second one i was in for about an hour, nothing serious it was just way too small.

The one I'm in now are abundant in respect (I think, it's hard to tell just two days in) but are very poor it seems. None of the 4 alliances can afford the NPC's in their guild halls. I find that kinda sad.

I really don't like guilds and yet I feel everyone should be in one.

Wow - I heard there are some bad guilds out there but never heard anything quite that bad. In our guild we tend to give new people any decent weapons they might want but only if that person doesnt want/need them anymore.

I'm one of the officers and my b/f is the leader and the people promoted are active members who people get along with and to an extend trust.

Bad luck on you mate, think you got 'had' in this instance - they obviously dont care about other people, just themselves!

Guilds that leeches from their members and members who leeches from their guilds are the scum of the guildwar community sadly, you just need to use your better judgement both as a guild member and normal player looking for a guild.

That's pretty screwed up, hope it wasn't your first guild experience. I doubt if most guilds are like that!

I'd have walked out at the very start about the whole "donate so officers can have l33t armour" crap. In my guild, people usually earn their own things and help each other out voluntarily (and if they sell or give things to each other it's entirely up to them, though usually a guildie discount is given compared to market prices)

If a guild's to have "donate" policy then it should be for something that is of benefit to all members e.g. a common items pool, Hall, web/voice server, Hall NPCS etc. and there should also be clearly accountable activities so people know where the donations have gone to avoid being scammed.

Well the former guild of the OP was clearly leaded by scammers, and fortunately I don't think most of the guilds are like that. However, whenever you ask for free contribution, or whatever, there will always be people participating or donating more than others, and other people who won't give and only take.

We had a material and dyes guild storage in my last guild. At the beginning, a few people even gave black dyes and expensive goodies. They shortly disappeared. We suspected a few members had been selling them, but we quickly forgot about that.

Then the mat/dyes holder left the guild. He had kept the stock when he left because no one was online then. I knew it was a trustfully guy, and he would have never scammed us. When the other officers realized he was gone, all of them except one (well.. 2 with me) had only in mind the materials, and kept asking where he was to get the mats back, not why he left the guild. I'm not angry against them, most of them were good guys, but there, as a few other times, I was really disappointed.

We finally got the mats back and someone else to hold them. Everybody went to the guild hall to give all the mats he had in stock (and when you're in a guild where all the members have 6-12 chars, even if there is not that many active members, I can tell you it takes time). Everything seemed to be fine. I never gave ectos or shards, nor back dye if I had found one, but I used to give all my other mats and dyes, including expensive ones (jade, silver dye, fangs, etc.), and I gave a lot. After a few weeks, I decided to go and buy a few new armors. I knew if I had kept the materials I found I would have most of what I needed to craft them (except jade and amber). But I soon realized that most of the members never gave since the day we got our mats back.

I had given 300k factions to my alliance, and how many plats of materials? I was an officer of the guild, but it didn't mean anything in this guild, except one of the other officers liked me. But the opinion of me and the other officers (and I don't even talk about members) who were not original members didn't matter for the leader. He didn't even warn us when he decided to leave a nice alliance we had joined, in which we had befriended guys. And this is just an example. I left the guild.

Conclusion: get involved in your guild, but make sure 1st the leadership AND the members do care about what you do or say. If they don't seem to, they prolly do not, and stuff like that is going to happen. Having a helpful guild is a great thing, but making as if the guild was helpful and such when it's only selfishness and I-don't-give-a-fookness is one of the most disappointing thing in game.

You're stupid if you trust people in real life, you're even more stupid if you trust someone behind a computer (hard to see their feelings :P).

The topic could of been made simple - you happily got used, and then you got abused (which you wern't so happy about it). The answer is simple, don't get used; however, the only problem is here is one thing. Topics like this put people off from joining guilds (check second post).

Sure you can avoid every guild incase one is a bad one; however, you might find 1 in a 100 is a nice guild with nice people. You can prevent yourself being used, never join a guild but you won't have as much fun.

So the advice to you (or anyone) from me would be to simply HELP someone get the green item, the rare gold item but do not out right give them it. That way you can both have fun and if you're farming for ectos, 4 drop for you but 1 for him - then maybe share. Other than that don't get used, in real life, online or where ever .

My guild is simple - bunch of friends, although I have tried toi nvite people I don't know so well, but I have found with any game - friends work out to be good teams . The sacrifice, quality for quantity (some people take one look at a small guild and leave ).

I do in real life, and even often behind the screen. I'm possibly stupid, yeah, but I'd rather trust people generally and sometimes have bad experiences than live in a world where trust doesn't exist.

But this is more about real life than this game...
